Many people ask the question “Why is this ball python so expensive?” The truth of the matter is that these are investment ball pythons. “Investment!” comes the incredulous reply, and I respond, “Yes, Investment.” People have found a new way to invest for the future rather than in some of the traditional ways. By making this type of investment, in quality ball pythons, it gives them the control of the vehicle by which they can attain their goals. Over the last decade I have seen the popularity of the ball python increase very dramatically. Breeders, such as myself, and others who have dedicated their efforts to these great pythons. When it all started there was only a handful of “morphs” to choose from. Now, nearly a decade later there are over 60 morphs being worked on in various collections around the world. Many of these have been proven genetic and there are even some that have yet to be proven out.
The prices at which these snakes sell have skyrocketed. Albinos, being the first morph to be sold, back in the 90’s started out at $7,500.00 for a single snake. Some people thought that purchasing a ball python at that price was insane. But the originator of that morph, Bob Clark, had a much broader vision than what most people could see. Well many of those that invested in those first few snakes that were offered are now at the top of the market today. So now we find ourselves in 2006 and would you believe that some single ball pythons are selling for over $20,000.00 each? How about $50,000.00? Yes, some balls have commanded more than double that in just the past few years.
So as you can see the investment potential is certainly there and the market is only getting bigger. New people are getting in everyday. Looking to better their future and have a lot of fun along the way. Can you imagine what it is like to hatch out a snake that is worth tens of thousands of dollars? If you can, then you will see that day yourself in your own incubator.
Many of the breeders out there, you will find, have only started with ball pythons just a few short years ago. Some have had no previous experience with snakes at all while some were specialized in other reptiles or even other animals such as dogs & birds. These people have seen the vision of this investment opportunity and have helped grow the industry. They are perfect examples of how one can get in the business and be a success.
Some may say that it is too late. The boat has left and I am still standing here n the dock. I am here to tell you the boat is still at port and there is plenty of room for boarding. Not only is there room, but you can choose what level you want to fit in right now. Whether you want to start off small and invest a few thousand dollars or dive in and invest much more, your dividend is waiting for you.
It is easier now than ever. The amount of information available today is tremendous, breeding videos, books, the internet and the sharing of personal knowledge from other breeders. You have the potential to make as much from your investment as you wish to.
The morphs being offered today are the result of many years of hard work. Some are commanding even higher prices than just a year ago. There are people spending money to buy them. In our opinion, ball pythons are everything you need in an investment. A growing market, small clutch sizes, new designer morphs & longevity.
Whether you have been waiting on the sidelines to see how it is going to turn out or you if are new to this industry get on board for an adventure you will not regret and one that will reward you in many ways. Give me a call, I would love to talk with you about your future in the field of herpetoculture.
Thanks
Chris
